The Imam’s Response to Diaa Regarding the Clarification of “Al-Wasilah” and the Meaning of Competing in the Love of Allah…
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon my grandfather Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, his pure Household, and all the supporters of Allah among His servants in the Kingdom of Heaven until the Day of Judgment. Peace be upon the messengers, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
O Diaa, you who challenge the Imam of Guidance: I am the Mahdi Imam, sent by Allah to guide you through the true explanation of the Noble Qur’an onto the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy. We remind by the Qur’an those who fear the warning, and we warn you of a severe punishment from Allah upon those who turn away from the call to worship Allah alone and from competing in the love of Allah and closeness to Him—who among them is nearest to their Lord. This is indeed the divine law of guidance established in the clear verses of the Book for those who have been guided to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy—among the prophets and those who followed them. Allah has clarified their way of guidance in His clear Book, saying:
{يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًا}
Allah speaks the truth. [Al-Isra’:57]
Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—never told you that he is the most beloved or the nearest servant to his Lord, nor did he forbid you from competing with him in the love and nearness of Allah. Rather, he commanded you with what Allah commanded him to say:
{قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ}
Allah speaks the truth. [Ali ‘Imran:31]
So, what does “following” Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—mean? The answer is: that we worship Allah alone exactly as Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—worshipped Him, and that we compete with Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—in the love and nearness of Allah. Only the one who truly loves Allah will respond to the call of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—because he finds that the greatest love in his heart is exclusively for his Lord Allah, with no partner whatsoever. This is the true explanation of Allah’s statement:
{قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ}
Allah speaks the truth. [Ali ‘Imran:31]
In other words: if you truly love Allah, then follow me so that we may compete in the love and nearness of Allah—if you are sincere in your love for Allah. Indeed, every claim requires proof. So respond to my call to worship Allah alone, without partner, and compete in the love and nearness of Allah: {إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ}.
Yet you have distorted the verse, O Diaa, as though Allah had said: “If you love Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, then follow me so that Allah will love you!” As though the competition is in loving Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—because you have made him a “red line” between Allah and His servants, believing that no servant should ever aspire to surpass Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, in the highest rank of nearness to the Lord of the Throne. Thus, your competition in love has shifted toward Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—since you consider him a red line that must not be crossed toward Allah. Yet you permit yourselves to compete among each other for who is more beloved and closer to the Messenger.
Perhaps Diaa wishes to interrupt me, saying: “We worship Allah alone, with no partner! It is our love for Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—that brings us closer to the Lord.” Then the Mahdi Imam, Nasser Mohammad, replies to you and says: “To what ultimate point, according to you, does this closeness in Allah’s love and nearness extend?” I already know your answer, O Diaa: “To the rank nearest to the Prophet, for we have no right to desire being more beloved or closer to Allah than His Prophet.” Then the Mahdi Imam replies to you and says: “Then you have committed shirk (association), O Diaa! By Allah, it is not permissible for the prophets or those who follow them and adhere to their guidance to privilege one another over the others in love and nearness to Allah. Rather, you find them competing toward their Lord: which of them is most beloved and nearest to the Lord?” This affirms the statement of Allah, the Almighty:
{يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًا}
Allah speaks the truth. [Al-Isra’:57]
Observe, O Diaa, Allah’s decree regarding their path of guidance toward their Lord: {يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ}—Allah speaks the truth. Thus, every servant who worships Allah as He deserves to be worshipped—alone, without partner—desires to be the most beloved and nearest servant. So if you truly love Allah, O Diaa, respond to the call of Truth from your Lord and compete with His servants in the love and nearness of Allah: {إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ}.
By Allah, there is no deity but He! Only those among the supporters of the Mahdi who genuinely love Allah have responded to the call of competing in His love and nearness. But those who do not love Allah with the greatest love are found indulging in love for things other than Him. Glory be to Allah, the Almighty! Indeed, Allah commanded you to love Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—more than you love one another. This means: if you love someone more than the Messenger of Allah, that reflects weakness in your faith in Allah and His Messenger, as confirmed by the hadith of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household:
“By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, none of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his own self, his wealth, his children, and all of mankind.” (Al-Bukhari)
However, neither Allah nor His Messenger ever commanded you to love Muhammad more than Allah Himself. If you do so, you have taken an equal to Allah in love within your heart, and thus committed shirk, as affirmed by Allah’s statement:
{وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِ اللَّـهِ أَندَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّـهِ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِّلَّـهِ وَلَوْ يَرَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا إِذْ يَرَوْنَ الْعَذَابَ أَنَّ الْقُوَّةَ لِلَّـهِ جَمِيعًا وَأَنَّ اللَّـهَ شَدِيدُ الْعَذَابِ﴿١٦٥﴾}
Allah speaks the truth. [Al-Baqarah]
I see that Diaa is declaring his defense of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household. But glory be to Allah! Did Nasser Mohammad Al-Yamani ever instruct you to love him more than Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah? Or did he command you to love one another more than the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him? Yet my followers and those whom Allah has made to witness my affair testify that the Mahdi Imam, Nasser Mohammad, calls the believers to love Allah most intensely—as Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—called them to worship Allah alone, without partner, and to compete in the love and nearness of Allah. And if someone claims to love Allah, every claim has its proof—so let him compete in the love and nearness of Allah, just as His prophets, messengers, and those who followed them do:
{يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ} — Allah speaks the truth.
Thus, by reason and logic, only those who truly love Allah will respond—and {يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ} — Allah speaks the truth. And where there is love in the heart, there is also jealousy for the One you love—you desire to be the most beloved and nearest to the Lord. That is why you find those who love Allah {يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ} — Allah speaks the truth. But you, O Diaa, are not among them.
By Allah! The Mahdi Imam tells you: if you love Allah, then follow me to compete in His love and nearness, so that Allah will love you and forgive your sins. This is the call of all the prophets and messengers of Allah to mankind and jinn: whoever among the servants truly loves Allah should respond to their call and compete with them in the love and nearness of Allah—{أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ}—to the Lord.
We shall begin our dialogue with our honored guest Diaa on this very point, under three conditions:
1. We submit to Allah to judge between us in what we differ.
2. You (or I) bring forth Allah’s judgment from His clear, decisive Book—directly addressing the core of our discussion.
3. We derive Allah’s ruling solely from the clear, unambiguous verses of the Book—the Mother of the Book and the foundation of this religion—since you believe that following the prophets means exaggerating in their veneration. But the Awaited Mahdi declares the truth: following the prophets means adhering to their guidance—walking the very same path they took toward their Lord: “Which of us is nearer to the Lord?” This affirms Allah’s decree regarding their path of guidance:
{يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَى رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ} — Allah speaks the truth.
Yet you, O Diaa, have forbidden “al-Wasilah” (the highest rank of nearness) upon yourselves and reserved it exclusively for the prophets, excluding the righteous among ordinary believers. Everyone who does not believe in Allah without associating His prophets and messengers with Him has likewise forbidden themselves access to the “Wasilah”—the closest rank to the Lord—and instead asks the prophets for it on their behalf, thereby committing shirk.
O Diaa, Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—never declared that the exalted, lofty rank over which Allah’s prophets, messengers, and their followers compete is exclusively reserved for one of Allah’s prophets. Rather, he made his statement general: it is reserved only for one servant among the servants of Allah, as stated in the authentic hadith:
— Peace and blessings be upon him.
This narration lacks an introduction but contains an interpolation at its end. We will mark the interpolated portion in red and present the full text as it appears in some of your books:
Glory be to Allah above what they associate with Him! How could Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—have commanded you to ask Allah for “al-Wasilah” on his behalf exclusively, when it is meant for only one servant among Allah’s servants? Glory be to Allah! And who, then, are the “others”? Are you not also servants of Allah? How could he reserve it solely for himself, excluding you? Did he not declare that it belongs only to one servant, and clearly stated he does not know who that servant is? The proof is in his words:
[“...لا تَنْبَغِي إِلا لِعَبْدٍ مِنْ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ، وَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا هُوَ”]
But due to your excessive veneration of the Prophet, you have decreed from your own selves that this rank belongs exclusively to Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, and not to you—thereby cutting off the path of ongoing competition among Allah’s servants toward their Lord: “Who among them is nearest?” What a grave falsehood you have fabricated against Allah, O those who commit shirk!
Do you not know that Allah did not reveal to any of His prophets or messengers the identity of the unknown servant who would attain this rank—precisely so that this competition among all servants toward their Lord might continue: “Which of them is that unknown servant nearest to the Lord?” That is why each of them hopes to be that servant, knowing the identity remains hidden and unrevealed. Therefore, Allah says:
Allah speaks the truth,
i.e., “Which of them is that unknown servant most beloved and nearest to the Lord?”
In summary, this declaration commands you with what Allah commanded His Prophet:
{قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ} — Allah speaks the truth. [Ali ‘Imran:31]
In other words: if you love Allah, then follow me in worshipping Allah alone, without partner, to compete in His love and nearness—who among us is the most beloved and nearest servant to the Lord—without elevating any servant above others. Allah has not taken a son from among His servants to be closer to his Father than others. We are all equally servants of Allah—His prophets, His messengers, and those who follow them. We all share the same right before Allah Himself: He is the Lord, and we are all His servants. The righteous followers have, in the presence of their Lord, the same rights as His prophets and messengers. They hold no distinction over others in the Essence of Allah—All are servants of the Lord, and to Him we submit. That is Allah, your true Lord! And after the truth, there is nothing but misguidance. This is confirmed by Allah’s words:
{فَذَلِكُمُ اللّهُ رَبُّكُمُ الْحَقُّ فَمَاذَا بَعْدَ الْحَقِّ إِلاَّ الضَّلاَلُ} — Allah speaks the truth. [Yunus:32]
Yet you, O Diaa, appear to stand against this call to worship Allah alone, without partner, and to compete in His love and nearness—opposing this blessed invitation under the pretense of defending the Prophet. Then the Mahdi Imam, Nasser Mohammad Al-Yamani, replies to you and says: “Has the Mahdi Imam declared war upon his grandfather, Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah? Or has Allah sent him as a helper to him—following his guidance and arguing with the same clear insight with which Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, and those who followed him and adhered to his guidance, used to argue?” This is confirmed by Allah’s words:
{قُلْ هَذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ} — Allah speaks the truth. [Yusuf:108]
As for your dream vision—it concerns only you. If it is true, it benefits you; if it is false, you deceive only yourself. A vision remains personal to its dreamer until Allah confirms it with clear, manifest proof in reality—only then does it become evidence against others.
For example, the Mahdi Imam’s vision of his grandfather, Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him and his pure Household—where he said:
[“What is from me is your tillage, and what is from Ali is your seed. The noblest of banners is your banner, and the greatest of goals is your goal. No one will ever dispute with you regarding the Qur’an without being defeated by you.”]
In another vision:
[“Indeed, you are the Awaited Mahdi. Allah will grant you knowledge of the Book. No scholar will ever dispute with you regarding the Qur’an without being defeated by you.”]
And in yet another:
[“Indeed, you are the Awaited Mahdi. No scholar will ever dispute with you regarding the Qur’an without being defeated by you.”]
However, whoever claims certainty that the Mahdi Imam is Nasser Mohammad Al-Yamani based solely on this vision—let me say to him: he is among the ignorant. For how can he be sure? Perhaps Nasser Mohammad Al-Yamani is lying about the vision, just as Diaa might be. But those of sound intellect will say: “We shall see whether you speak the truth or are among the liars. If you are indeed the Awaited Mahdi, then Allah will certainly confirm your vision with manifest truth in reality—and we will find that indeed no scholar disputes with you regarding the Qur’an without you overcoming him with clear knowledge and evident authority—for proof lies in the power of knowledge, not merely in dreams.”
Peace be upon the messengers, and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Your brother,
The Mahdi Imam, Nasser Mohammad Al-Yamani.
